Giving Voice To Image 3 - February 25 - April 21, 2015
For the third time Vivo Contemporary artists are collaborating with an award- winning group of Santa Fe poets giving poetic voice to artistic image in the new show, Giving Voice To Image 3. This creative alliance draws its inspiration from the ancient Roman poet Horaces adage, A picture is a poem without words. All too often, artistic disciplines remain separate. Giving Voice To Image 3 is a unique and exciting celebration of the beauty of words and images which explores the ways in which each can intensify the power of the other.
Fourteen artists and poets worked together over the past few months to create new works inspired by each others conceptual visions. Emails flew back and forth as the creative process unfolded. Poets visited ViVO Contemporary as well as the artists individual studios to view the artists work, discuss themes, and cultivate ideas. The result of this shared effort is an exciting show of new poetry and works of art inspired by and amplified through collaboration. Patty Hammarstedt will be collaborating for the third time with poet Renee Gregorio.
Both the art and the poetry created from this collaboration will be spotlighted in a series of poetry readings - cum - gallery openings for the show, Giving Voice to Image 3, which runs February 25 through April 21, 2015. Specifically, 14 sculptors, painters, book artists, printmakers, kiln glass artists, calligraphers and mixed media artists from Vivo Contemporary have been paired with 14 established and talented Santa Fe poets.

EXCAVATIONS
Excavations, the new show at ViVO Contemporary, is based on the premise that, what is visible expresses all which is invisible. Fourteen artists (including Patty Hammarstedt) reveal, through content and form, their individual artistic explorations in vastly different media of calligraphy, book art, acrylic painting, ceramic and paper sculpture, kiln glass, collage, and printmaking.
These exhibiting artists create visual interpretations of what they have uncovered in their lifetimes - what they have seen, heard, felt, touched and discovered. This show invites the viewer to intently scratch the surface of fourteen ViVO Contemporary artists inspiration and subsequent creation on the subjects of their own experiences.

"In The Mood": A Collaboration of Artists and Musicians
Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. wrote the ancient Greek philosopher, Plato. Now, 2300 years later, this insightful maxim is the catalyst for ViVO Contemporary's latest show entitled "In The Mood". ViVO artists, including Patty Hammarstedt, have paired with local musicians celebrating the universal language of music and the visual language of art. This exciting new show creates a truly enveloping interactive experience by allowing visitors to listen to recorded musical links for each piece of art as they browse the gallery. Patty Hammarstedt has paired with artist/musician Paul Shapiro who will perform his woeful zen harmonica and hoppin' blues on July 18 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Live musical performances will be featured every Friday evening, 5 -7PM, at ViVO Contemporary from June 25 through September 2, where visitors will have the opportunity to personally meet the artists and musicians to discuss their work. Dont miss this lively summer event, certain to get anyone In The Mood!
GIVING VOICE TO IMAGE 2: A Collaboration of Artists and Poets
The Roman poet Horace once wrote, A picture is a poem without words. Now, 2,000 years later, ViVO Contemporary artists and an award-winning group of Santa Fe poets are working together for a second time giving poetic voice to artistic image. Too often, artistic disciplines remain separate. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to celebrate the beauty of both words and images and to explore the ways in which each can intensify the power of the other.
Both the art and the poetry created from this collaboration will be spotlighted in the show, Giving Voice to Image 2, which runs January 29 through March 4, 2014. Specifically, 12 sculptors, painters, book artists, printmakers, glass artists and mixed media artists from ViVO Contemporary have paired with 12 established, talented, and award winning Santa Fe poets.
The artists and poets have been working together during the past few months creating new works inspired by each others creative visions. Poets have visited the artists studios or the gallery to view the artists work, discuss themes, and cultivate ideas. Each poet has then written a new poem inspired by and amplifying an artists work.
This unique collaboration entitled Giving Voice to Image 2, is being celebrated in a series of poetry readings-cum-gallery openings at ViVO Contemporary, 725 Canyon Road. The first opening will take place on Friday, January 31, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM featuring Julia Deisler, Renee Gregorio, Donald Levering, Mary McGinnis, Elizabeth OBrien and Elizabeth Raby with an introductory reading by Barbara Rockman.. The second reading will take place on Friday, February 7 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, also at ViVO Contemporary, featuring Paul Biagi, Mike Burwell, Lauren Camp, Shebana Coelho, Miriam Sagan and Lauren Camp reading Darryl Williams poem, with an introductory reading by Barbara Rockman. Artists will also be in attendance each evening.

December 4, 2013 through January 28, 2014
